Word has been received in Tonica that James Kane died week before last in Chicago. He has been in ill health for some time. Mr. Kane was, for many years, a resident of this village and was section foreman on the Illinois Central [Railroad]. He was an honest, hard working man, and well known and honored by all.

Word has been received of the passing away of Mrs. James Kane of Chicago, her death occurring about two weeks ago. The deceased was the wife of James Kane, who for several years was section foreman for the Illinois Central here. She was also landlady of the old Tonica hotel for several years.

DIXON WOMAN DIED IN CHICAGO SUNDAY
Mrs. Fred Humphreys Passed Away At The Home Of Her Mother There
Mrs. Fred Humphreys [Humphries] of 115 Crawford avenue, this city, passed away at 7 o'clock Sunday [July 12] at the home of her mother, Mrs. James Kane of Vincennes avenue, Chicago, after a short illness. The remains of the beloved Dixon lady, who has hosts of friends here who will mourn her death, arrived in Dixon today, and funeral services will be held at her home at 9:30 o'clock, and at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning at St. Patrick's Catholic church, Father Foley officiating. Burial will be beside her husband and son at Oakwood cemetery.

Mrs. Humphreys was an estimable woman in every respect and her happy and charming characteristics and manners resulted in her winning the love of all who knew her. She is survived by her mother, three sisters and five brothers: Mrs. Wm. Hanna [Hannan] and Miss Nellie Kane of Chicago; Mrs. Agnes O'Dell of Dixon; Charles, Herbert and John Kane of Chicago and Edward Kane of Los Angeles, Cal.

Died, at his home in Tonica, Wednesday evening, February 6, William Kane, eldest son of Mr. And Mrs. James Kane. Deceased was familiarly known among his associates as "Danky." He was 17 years of age, last November. For more than three weeks he has been dangerously ill from pneumonia in it’s worst form; until finally his young life yielded to the inevitable after intense suffering. The burial took place on Friday at the Lostlands Cemetery in Richland [Illinois]. The sorrowing family may justly claim the sympathies of their neighbors.

James Kane Dead
James Kane, better known as, "Tip," he that could make an imprompter [sic] political speach [sic] at any time for either party, in fact a lad who enjoyed life all the time and had many friends died Wednesday [Tuesday, November 26] in Phoenix, Arizona, where he had gone a month ago with his sister, Mrs. Fred Humphrie [Humphries] of this city. It has been only two weeks since a sister [Mary] died of the same dread disease, consumption, in Chicago. Chicago is the home of the family, father, mother, four sons and four daughters, and there the funeral will be held when the body arrives from the west.

Obituary

Died in Chicago.
Word has been received by Mrs. Fred Humphrey of the death of her sister, Miss Mollie [Mary] Kane. Miss Kane is well known in Dixon, where she live [sic] for five years previous to he [sic] removal to Chicago six years ago. Her death was quite sudden and is a shock to her friends here, where she was very popular among the young people and loved for her many excellent qualities. Miss Kane was about 23 years [21 years] of age and leaves her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Kane, a brother, John, of Chicago and sister, Mrs. Humphrey of this city, whom she visited last summer. The funeral will take place Sunday [November 16].
